Rainbow Children’s Home – Restoring Childhood Beyond Stigma
Project Initiation: June 2004
Location: Andhra Pradesh, India
Implemented by: Brighter Future Development Trust (BFDT)

Introduction: Where Childhood Begins Again
Rainbow Children’s Home was established with a simple yet powerful belief:
No child should be denied education, dignity, or a safe childhood because of disease, disability, or poverty.
For children born into families affected by Leprosy, HIV/AIDS, Disability, and extreme poverty, discrimination often begins early—at school gates, in neighborhoods, and sometimes even within their own families. Rainbow Children’s Home exists to interrupt this cycle of exclusion and replace it with care, stability, education, and hope.

The Genesis of Rainbow Children’s Home
Rainbow Children’s Home was founded in June 2004 by Mr. Victor Parisipogula and Mrs. Mary Parisipogula, along with a committed group of individuals who themselves came from humble backgrounds.
Through years of community work, the founders encountered children who:
Were denied school admission due to stigma
Accompanied parents and grandparents affected by leprosy or HIV
Were forced to beg on the streets for survival
Lived without consistent food, shelter, or medical care
These children were not lacking ability—but opportunity.
Recognizing the urgent need for a safe residential environment, BFDT established Rainbow Children’s Home as a permanent solution, not a temporary shelter.

Who Rainbow Children’s Home Serves
Rainbow Children’s Home supports children from highly marginalized backgrounds, including:
Children affected by HIV/AIDS
Children from leprosy-affected families
Children with disabilities
Children from Below Poverty Line (BPL) households
Orphaned and semi-orphaned children
Many children admitted had previously been excluded from schools and basic social participation.

Scale and Reach
80–85 children currently reside at Rainbow Children’s Home
Boys and girls are provided with long-term residential care
Children range across different age groups and educational levels
Each child is admitted after careful assessment to ensure the Home remains a protective, nurturing, and sustainable environment.

Residential Care and Safe Living Environment
Rainbow Children’s Home provides a structured and child-friendly residential setting, ensuring:
Safe and hygienic accommodation
Regular meals and nutrition
Clean water and sanitation
Age-appropriate daily routines
Supervised care by trained staff
For many children, Rainbow is the first place they experience stability and security.

Education as the Foundation of Change
Education lies at the heart of Rainbow Children’s Home.
Educational Support Includes:
Enrollment in formal schools
Continuous academic monitoring
Support for school supplies and uniforms
Tutoring and remedial education
Encouragement for higher education
Children who once wandered the streets now attend school regularly, dream confidently, and aspire to professional futures.

Health and Medical Support
Given the health vulnerabilities of many children, Rainbow Children’s Home ensures:
Regular medical check-ups
Access to treatment and referrals
Monitoring of chronic conditions
Psychological support when required
Medical care is integrated into daily life, ensuring early intervention and sustained well-being.

Psychological and Emotional Development
Stigma leaves deep emotional scars. Rainbow Children’s Home addresses this through:
Emotional counseling and mentoring
Building self-confidence and social skills
Group activities that foster belonging
A loving, non-judgmental environment
Children gradually transition from fear and withdrawal to confidence and expression.

Holistic Child Development
Beyond academics, Rainbow focuses on overall child development, including:
Life skills education
Moral and value-based learning
Sports, arts, and cultural activities
Leadership and responsibility building
Children are encouraged to discover talents, express creativity, and build social confidence.

Breaking the Cycle of Stigma
Rainbow Children’s Home is also a social intervention.
By reintegrating children into schools and society, BFDT actively challenges:
Myths around HIV and leprosy
Discrimination in education
Social exclusion of affected families
Rainbow children grow up understanding that their identity is not defined by disease or poverty.

Impact Over the Years
Since 2004, Rainbow Children’s Home has:
Rescued children from street life and neglect
Enabled consistent access to education
Restored health, confidence, and dignity
Replaced fear with belonging and ambition
Many children who entered Rainbow at a young age have continued into higher education and vocational pathways.
