Providing nursing, respite, and palliative care for men, women, and children with HIV
Brighter Future provides a 15-bed hospice for palliative, nursing, and respite care for HIV+ widows and children who cannot access care anywhere else. Every year, we care for around 90 people affected by HIV and TB.
Brighter Future has been working with people affected by HIV for a decade. We conduct village surveys, working closely with village elders to find adults and children who have been sick for a long time, as well as recent orphans. BFI has an excellent reputation in the area and also receives referrals from the local government, doctors, testing centres, and other NGOs. We conduct health camps to give free medicine and advice to villagers.
In response to the desperate need for care in the area, our hospice was opened in 2013.
Since then, the centre has quite simply saved lives by providing.
- By taking patients for testing and ensuring that ART (anti-retroviral therapy) is taken regularly,
- Nursing care for patients with HIV/AIDS during the acute phases of their illness
- We support patients during periods when they need to adapt to the severity of starting ART treatment.
- We provide palliative care for the terminally ill.
- We provide counselling and psychological support.
We regularly see children at death’s door restored to health through medication, food, and love. Although we have great success in treating people, sadly, some patients are brought to us with severe infections they are unable to fight because of HIV. The hospice enables us to provide dignity, comfort, and peace at the end of a patient’s life.
